Birthday "Torture" for Reindler

Birthday celebrations were far from Karl Reindler’s mind in Hamilton this afternoon after the Fair Dinkum Sheds Racing driver endured 80% of a V8 Supercar race without power steering.

Reindler, who turned 25 today, lost hydraulic assistance on lap ten but persevered to finish 21st and in the points.

V8 Supercars will next be in action two weeks from now at Queensland Raceway, Ipswich.

“That was comfortably the most difficult race I’ve ever done; it was 170km of torture. Ten-fold is a figure that’s thrown around a lot but it was probably ten-times harder without power steering and it was a physically tough circuit already.

“Some corners I just physically didn’t have the strength to get around and I had a few close calls out there.

“The car felt good before that and I’m sure I could have made up a few spots. In the end it was just a matter of holding on for as long as I could. I’ve got a few more points on the table and another learning experience in the bag.”

“Karl had a problem with power steering and we need to get it home and have a look at what caused that. It’s a pretty tough circuit to do 80% with no power steering so it was a great job by Karl. He was running well before he had this problem but even with the trouble, it’s another solid result from him.”
