Engines Selected for New Generation NZV8s Championship Cars

Ford and Holden fans will have plenty to cheer about with the announcement that the proven Ford Coyote and Chevy LS3 engines have been selected as the power plants for the new Ford and Holden NZV8 championship cars currently under construction.



Announcing the engine choice, NZV8s chairman Ian (Inky) Tulloch said the two engines have been proved in the racing environment and are also currently used in the Ford Mustang and General Motors Chev Corvette.  



They are state of the art lightweight high performance race proven V8  engines with electronic fuel injection and will be dry sumped. Apart from the sump modification the engine packages will be ready to race.



The Ford Coyote is a 5 litre quad cam unit while the Holden’s LS3 has a 6.2 litre displacement. Both are the latest model production engines that can produce in excess of 450 hp. With electronic engine management, parity can be achieved to ensure close, exciting racing.



“We delayed announcing our engine selection until testing of the new Ford Coyote engine in the Australian V8 Utes proved its performance and reliability. We are now satisfied that this engine will be ideal for the new generation Ford V8. The LS3 needed no further proof of performance.



“Testing of the prototype new generation space frame NZV8 with the existing engine and transmission on South Island circuits is showing we have an excellent chassis and race package that will perfectly compliment the new Ford and Holden engines,” Inky said.
