Richards Wins Battle of the Kiwis

Home favourite Jason Richards spent most of this afternoon’s V8 Supercar race battling his countrymen at Hamilton Street Track and after 59 laps came out in front.

Starting from 15th the Team BOC driver’s main aim was to finish in the top ten but he found himself frustrated battling with Kiwis Greg Murphy and Steve Richards. He eventually finished 11th, the first of the New Zealanders,  but team boss Brad Jones says they will need to find some pace to break into the top ten for tomorrow’s race, which starts at 15.05.

Jason Richards, Team BOC #8:
“It was quite ironic to be battling with the kiwis; we should be battling with the Aussies, not each other but we were surrounded by each other at one stage! At the start of the race it looked like four of us were going to go out together.

“Eleventh was the speed of the car today and that’s where we ran; in fact we probably did a better job with it than the performance would suggest. We haven’t got it dialed in this weekend so the goal is to finish in the top ten.”

Brad Jones, Co-Owner:
“Qualifying is such an important part of this type of racing at the moment and really Jason did a fantastic job to move up to 11th from 15th but it’s certainly not as good as we hoped for. He had a pretty fast car in the middle section of the race but he was just in a line of cars and we’ve got to find a little bit of speed to lift him past those for tomorrow.”
