RICHMOND, Virginia (June 27, 2009) - Vision Racing driver Ed Carpenter finished 13th at Richmond International Raceway in the SunTrust Indy Challenge driving the No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone machine.
Carpenter started from the 14th position and ran as high as eighth in the race, but was caught out twice by yellow flags immediately after making his second and third pit stops. Those cautions caused by on-track accidents impeded any progress and advancement Carpenter could have made via pit stop cycles and fuel saving strategies. The 13th place finish this evening dropped Carpenter one point in the IndyCar Series championship point standings to the 13th position with 143 points (136 points behind the leaders). This stretch of six consecutive oval races that saw Carpenter score four top-ten finishes has concluded with Richmond and now the IndyCar Series will transition to the first of three consecutive road and street course events starting with next weekend's affair at Watkins Glen International. Carpenter's best finish at Watkins Glen came in 2006 when he finished sixth. It is also the team's best finish at the 3.37-mile road course. ![]() ADD YOUR NEWS ITEM BY LOGGING ON BELOW
