Team TransNet Extreme goes Group N for 2010

With continued support from TransNet and Tyco Electronics, as well as a newer group N Mitsubishi Evo 9, Team TransNet Extreme are set to battle at the front of the 2010 New Zealand Rally Championship.

For driver Glenn Inkster, the opportunity to contest for the top title in New Zealand rallying is something he has been working towards for his whole rallying career, “The opportunity to compete for the top prize in the NZRC is something I have been aiming for ever since I started rallying and to do so in a car capable of winning is awesome,” says Inkster, who will once again be partnered in the car by Glenn Goldring.

Having contested a couple of rally sprints to familiarise himself with the car, Inkster now can’t wait for the season to get underway properly at Otago on April 10-11 against one of the strongest national championship fields seen in years.

“It’s going to be an awesome battle, there is going to be a lot of cars battling for the top spots, it’s going to be really interesting,” Inkster adds.

The Otago event has been a tough one for Inkster and Goldring, first contesting the event in a Kiwi 2 Honda Integra until wheel stud problems cost the team huge amounts of time. Last year, on their second attempt at the event, the TransNet Evo 6.5 lost brakes on the very first stage, ending the teams high hopes for the event there and then.

However this years event sees a change in route and the team hope that combining that with a change of car will give them the chance to show their speed.

The 2010 Otago Rally kicks off with a rally show on Friday April 9 before the teams travel as far north as Oamaru to contest the opening days 144 kilometres of special stages. The second day moves onto more familiar roads for a further 122 kilometres of stages.
